Demand in the semiconductor industry is rapidly increasing due to the accelerating evolution of IoT and AI, which connect all kinds of devices to the Internet, as well as the growing use of consumer products such as PCs, next‑generation game consoles, and smartphones.
The United States, which holds a large share of global semiconductor development and production, has announced plans to further expand investment in the semiconductor industry.
To meet the growing needs of the semiconductor market, COSEL has expanded its lineup of SCCR-compliant EMI filters.

- *1:SCCR value evaluated in combination with a breaker. Any breaker from any manufacturer can be used as long as it is a UL listed certified product.
- *2:Product to which the assumed value according to UL508A is applied.
- *3:The rated interrupting current of the breaker used in combination must be the same as the rated input current of the EMI filter.
Benefits of using SCCR-compliant EMI filters
Reduction of evaluation time and costs in safety standard certification.
Safety standards are established to ensure the protection of people, property, and the environment.
In the United States (hereafter referred to as the U.S.), there are UL standards established by the testing and inspection organization UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.). This UL standard includes UL508: Industrial Control Equipment and UL508A: Industrial Control Panels.
The SCCR (Short‑Circuit Current Rating) specified in UL508 and UL508A refers to the maximum short‑circuit current that the equipment in each power circuit can safely withstand.
The National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 79, the U.S. electrical standard for industrial machinery, require that the SCCR (Short‑Circuit Current Rating) be clearly marked on industrial control panels of equipment exported to the U.S.
Under the UL508A standard (effective August 2020), EMI filters are classified as components subject to SCCR requirements. Therefore, using an SCCR-compliant EMI filter significantly reduces the risk of non‑conformity findings related to the filter during safety certification, contributing to shorter process time.
