Technical Support

Example of the digital control modification for the power supply Failure identification by multiple alarms from digital signal outputs.

Is it possible to identify which abnormal condition occurred from multiple signal outputs?

Yes. By the modification, alarm waveforms help identify which abnormal condition occurred.

Alarm identification function

A power supply with an alarm function detects abnormalities in the output voltage and generates a built-in alarm signal to notify the user of a problem.
This alarm function is useful for identifying that the power supply has stopped. However, it does not allow identification of the cause of the stoppage, making it difficult to take corrective action in the field. If a component external to the power supply is the cause of the failure, the power supply may stop again even if it is replaced.

The concept of the alarm function is to identify the cause of the abnormality by generating different alarm waveforms that vary depending on the cause of the problem.

By using LED lighting patterns, the cause of the failure can be visually identified. The LED blinking frequency varies based on the alarm condition, making it easy to determine the cause of the output stoppage from the LED indication.

The alarm output remains active even after the power supply recovers from an abnormal condition, allowing the user to confirm the occurrence of an abnormality without missing it.
